Summer Reading Program

June 1 to July 31

Story Time will not be held on July 21
Children
Birth to 6th grade

Story time will be held every Wednesday at the times listed below.

Birth to 2 years of age: 9:30 a.m. to 9:45 a.m.
2 years of age to preschool: 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
Kindergarten to 2nd grade: 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.
3rd to 6th grade: 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Each child will receive a color-coded reading record to fill and return at the end of each week for a prize. Upon completing the final record, your child's name will be put into a drawing for a grand prize! Awards for the summer will be given out on August 4th.

Teens
Sign up week: June 1-5
Decorate a duck contest: June 11, 3:30 P.M.
Make your own bag or t-shirt: June 25, 3:30 P.M
Wii game night: July 9, 3:30 P.M
Special family activity: July 22, 6:00 P.M.
Awards and prizes: August 4

Every page earns a point!* Every time you earn 100 points on your reading record, your name will be entered in the drawing for an awesome prize. There is no limit on how many times you can enter. Come to the library to sign up and get started!

*Magazines and newspapers count as 5 points only. You may also write book reviews for 5 points a piece.

THE DOT SYSTEM

The dot system is a simple way of marking a book for the reading level it is intended. These dots appear on the spines of books written for kindergarten through third grade-level readers. Look for these books in the short blue, green, and red shelves in the Children's Department of the library.


Red Dot: Pre-school- Kindergarten
Blue Dot: First & Second Grade
Green Dot: Second & Third Grade

THE DISCOVERY COLLECTION

The Discovering Collection consists of essays and reference works on the subjects of Literature, History, Biography, Science and Social Studies for K-12 students. The Discovering Collection is designed with the student in mind. It is comprised of more than 28,000 biographies, 18,000 overview essays and more than 13,500 critical essays in core curriculum subjects- all available online, 24 hours a day. All of the information is pulled directly from Thomson Gale reference materials and explores literature, history, biography, science and social studies with comprehensive content easily accessible by even the most novice researchers.
