Amazon.com When you're pregnant, there is nothing more exciting than keeping up with the drastic changes your body undergoes on a weekly basis. In Your Pregnancy Week by Week, Glade B. Curtis, M.D. (Your Pregnancy Questions and Answers, Your Pregnancy After Thirty) has written a clear, easy to follow guidebook. Each "week" includes information on: How Big Is Your Baby?, How Big Are You?, How Your Baby Is Growing and Developing, Changes in You, How Your Actions Affect Your Baby's Development, You Should Also Know, and a Tip of the Week. With the exception of the You Should Also Know sections (which sometimes focus on rare problems and concerns), the tone of the book is informative, chatty and reassuring. An extensive, excellent glossary adds value. Your Pregnancy Week by Week seems intended to both simplify and expand on the information an inexperienced or first-time mother-to-be receives from her medical provider. It is especially ideal for very young pregnant women seeking to better understand the changes in their bodies. --Ericka Lutz

  • Some good information, laced with all kinds of scary things (2)
While this book has some good information, the format for each chapter seems to be:

    1. What your baby is doing.
    2. How your body is changing.
    3. What sort of scary thing can happen to you during pregnancy.

If you have a good imagination, you can supply your own scary stories of what can go wrong...this book only fed my imagination, and provided very little peace. It was good for a basic reference, but you can get that anywhere -- and online, the information is free!
  • a.k.a. 'The Evil Book' (1)

More appropriate titles for this book:

"All that could go wrong in your pregnancy, Week by Week"
    "Pregnant? Let's start to Worry!"
"How to create more Fear & Anxiety in your pregnancy"

I open this book to the appropriate week, read the breif weight and length of the baby, and close the book quickly. Even the pictures (few and crude as they may be) are often of babies in distress! The only good information are the baby's weight and length, which can easily be found online. There are far better pregnancy books that are more informative, less anxiety driven, and have color photos to boot! Please, do not consider this book if you are pregnant.
  • Good for us impatient mothers...but it has its' drawbacks (3)
Where do I start with this one? It's got its' negative and positive points.

    The negative:
    * Very disorganized information. You'll find information in any given week that has nothing to do with that week.
    * When you do have a question about something, it's not all covered in a section, you have to flip all over the book.
    * Starts out showing actual size of the baby...but stops long before the baby is big enough to fill the page.

    The positive:
    * Good for hearing what changes are happening in your baby and how big the baby is.
    * In the first part, it shows the actual size of the baby...unfortunately it doesn't continue after your pregnancy is 12 weeks along.
    * Great for impatient moms wanting to take the pregnancy week-by-week rather than month-by-month.

    The Overview:
Great for week-to-week reading...bad for getting information in an organized manner. My two Go-To books on pregnancy were this and 'What To Expect...'. If 'What To Expect' would include the pictures (which are sketches, not actual photos I must mention) of how big the baby is and approximately what the baby would look like plus week-to-week information on changes in the baby, I would have only needed one book. It was worth the money just for a 2nd reference though. If I were to be stranded, pregnant, on a deserted island...I wouldn't feel comfortable with having only this book for reference.
  • Best Book Ever (5)
Whether you are having your 1st baby or your 3rd - like me, I love this book. It walks you through each week of your pregancy showing how the baby is growing and talks about what you might be feeling or what to look for.
  • i like it better than "what to expect when you're expecting" (5)
i like them both (and it's the only other one i have to compare it to). but this one is more educational. you hear of all these things and you don't know what they're talking about...and this book explains. also, it explains things as they are happening. an easy read. i always wish the chapters were even longer each week. and someone commented about a lack of statistics?!? this is something that only physicians or nurse midwives have as a rough estimate in their heads, changing continuously with the constantly growing base of scientific research - not really appropriate, feasible, and much less necessary for reassurance from book aimed at educating the general public. i found the book very reassuring. even with the little things, such as explaining the sudden itchiness i started having the last few weeks. and then i read my weeks chapter and there it was: itchiness, with an explaination. it just makes you feel real normal...which is good.
